HPU Students Stuff 600 Stockings for Senior Citizens

HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 13, 2023 – High Point University’s Student Government Association and other students filled 600 stockings for senior citizens in the community as part of the Salvation Army of High Point’s Stuff a Stocking Campaign.

To make the donation possible, SGA held an assembly-style stuffing event on the night of Dec. 11 at the Earl N. Phillips School of Business. Stockings were filled with winter weather necessities, such as blankets, socks, gloves, toboggans, toothbrushes, toothpaste, ChapStick and lotion, as well as activities like crossword puzzle books, playing cards, magnifying glasses, notebooks and colored pencils. Students also wrote messages for each person receiving a stocking. The stockings will be distributed to assisted living facilities and retirement communities.

“SGA students love supporting this annual service project for seniors in assisted living centers who rely on the Salvation Army, especially because it's a way for us to continue to participate in this season of giving and to help provide for others during the holidays,” said SGA President Hannah Parson, a senior political science major from Orlando, Florida. “We always have fun packing the stockings and make it a yearly tradition. This effort is so important because it keeps us connected to the community and hopefully brightens a few people's days, which is all we can ask when aiming to share our blessings with others.”

This is the 12th year HPU students have supported the Stuff a Stocking Campaign during the holiday season.

“We are forever grateful for the generous support of our community here at High Point University who work alongside the Salvation Army,” said Roger Coulson, a major with

The Salvation Army of High Point. “Together, we are making the season brighter for people in need in our community.”
