Who: High Point University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy is hosting a viewing of the partial solar eclipse. There will be telescopes with solar filters and eclipse glasses available for people to safely view the partial solar eclipse.

This event is free and open to the public. People can enter the HPU campus at the entrance located at the intersection of Qubein Avenue and N. Centennial Street.

What: Viewing of the partial solar eclipse

When: Saturday, Oct. 14, at 11:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Wanek School of Natural Sciences, One University Parkway, High Point, NC, 27268

Why: A solar eclipse is one of nature's most spectacular shows. Viewed from High Point, the moon will block a little more than one-third of the sun. It is never safe to look directly at an eclipse because the sunlight can damage the eye. HPU’s Department of Physics and Astronomy will provide the proper filters for people to safely appreciate the partial solar eclipse, as well as telescopes that will offer a magnified view of the partial eclipse.
