New London, CT - Hygienic Art is proud to present the

45th year of the community winter art show

Salon Des Independants.

This year is dedicated to one of Hygienic Art founders, contemporary American Artist Barkley Hendricks. Hendricks was one of the artists who conceived of the Salon Des Independants art show 45 years ago when the Hygienic was still a 24 hour diner. Barkley gained wide recognition for his distinctive approach to portraiture, often depicting friends, family, and acquaintances. His work often explored themes of identity, race, and representation. He served as a faculty member at Connecticut College in New London, CT. For many years. Barkley had a gallery on State Street in New London. He made a lasting impact as his artistic influence extended beyond the campus, contributing to the broader cultural and artistic landscape nationally.
