It's Not Too Late To Give The Gift Of Good Public Policy

Clubs and Organizations

December 23, 2022

From: Maine Women's Policy Center

For too long, care work has been invisible and undervalued work that powers our families, communities, and economy.

Care work, whether paid or unpaid, is done by women of all ages, and the lack of care infrastructure is one of the primary drivers of gender inequity in Maine.

85% of care workers in Maine, whether paid, underpaid, and unpaid, are women.

That’s why we’re here to pass laws to build care work systems as gender justice. It’s also why we’re all in on Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML), a critical part of care infrastructure, either through the legislative process this spring, or at the ballot. We will continue this and other change work, and be a voice at the State House for reproductive justice, women’s economic security, fighting anti-trans and anti-LGBTQIA+ laws, and so much more.

As we continue to face attacks on gender equity, particularly on reproductive justice, please consider a $5 to $30 monthly gift, which is the best way to help us do our best work every single session in Augusta.

Your support right now will:

- Create care systems by making Paid Family and Medical Leave a reality in Maine in 2023. We are committed to leading the Maine Paid Leave Coalition to a legislative victory next session – or to work with the Maine People’s Alliance to make it happen by ballot;
- Support a full legislative agenda for gender equity, with reproductive justice at the center – because we must all be able to choose whether, when, and how we bear and care for children; and
- Build the next generation of power for gender equity. This winter, we will launch the 27th Girls Day at the Statehouse and an expanded Youth Policy Leadership Forum, a high school program to build policy skills and confidence for young feminists from January to June.

Your gift today, in any amount, makes an important difference – whether it is a one-time gift, an annual pledge, or a recurring monthly donation. Thank you for your consideration!

P.S. You can choose to give a gift toward our advocacy and lobbying with the Maine Women’s Lobby or toward our civic engagement and education programs with the MWL Education Fund. Both types of programs create a future in Maine that centers and creates gender equitable public policy. Thanks!
