Keeping Florida Free in 2023

Government and Politics

January 9, 2023

From: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis

Floridians,

This week, I was honored to be sworn in for a second term as Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshal of the free state of Florida. My journey in public service started nearly 18 years ago, and since the beginning, I have always seen our great state as a symbol of liberty and freedom for the rest of the nation, as well as having the potential for immeasurable growth. It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as Florida's CFO, and I am grateful for the confidence that the electorate has placed in me to serve for a second term. I am committed to continue working hard day and night to Keep Florida Free, and to ensure taxpayer dollars are respected, our first responders are supported, and we hold those accountable who commit fraud, waste or abuse.

Lastly, I was happy to announce later this week, that more than $26 million in unclaimed property was returned to the pockets of Florida families and businesses during the month of December. In 2022, we returned $351.2 million and this year we are working to surpass that amount. As your CFO, it remains my mission to return every cent of unclaimed property back to its rightful owner. I encourage every Floridian to search now for unclaimed property for yourself, your friends, your loved one, and even your business at FLTreasureHunt.gov. It's your money, claim it today!
