President's Message

This issue of our newsletter is being sent early in preparation for the impacts of Hurricane Ian. I hope everyone has their emergency plans in place, and that we all do well managing the impacts of the storm.

Candidate Forums

All four candidates for the two seats on the Seminole County School Board will take questions on the League’s Zoom Forum scheduled for Sunday evening, October 16, at 6:30 pm.  Co-sponsoring, as it has for more than 20 years, is the Seminole County Council of PTAs.

Anticipating a large audience with many questions, we are asking the public to submit questions in advance to [email protected].  

The pre-primary SCSB candidates forum attracted more than 2,000 hits on Facebook, as well as nearly 200 during the actual broadcast.  Go to League’s website, lwvseminole.org,  to register.

Because League rules forbid “empty chair” forums, as well as the use of substitutes for the candidate in the forums and debates it sponsors, it has been impossible to schedule a forum for the two contested  Board of County Commission seats this year.  

Amendment Presentations

There are three amendments to the Florida State Constitution on the ballot this year. Our Zoom presentation in now scheduled for Wednesday, October 5 at 6:00 pm. Sign up on our webpage, lwvseminole.org.
