Matt Salmon Statement Opposing Senate Gun-Control Bill

Government and Politics

June 22, 2022

From: Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs

Phoenix – Former Congressman and Republican gubernatorial candidate Matt Salmon on June 22nd, issued the following statement expressing his opposition to the U.S. Senate's gun-control bill:

"What part of 'shall not be infringed' does Congress not understand?

"The American people's Second Amendment rights are under constant attack by the federal government, by blue-state legislatures, and by liberal municipalities.

"This 80-page bill would subsidize red-flag laws and make it harder for law-abiding citizens to purchase firearms, and it contains overly broad language that undoubtedly will open the door to additional gun-control measures in the future.

"I urge Arizona's congressional delegation to vote 'no' on this bipartisan violation of the U.S. Constitution and, instead, move forward with common-sense initiatives, like investments in mental health and training programs, that will keep our communities safe."
