Governor Walz Prepares for Immediate Extradition of MOA Shooting Suspects

On Friday, Governor Walz announced he is prepared to immediately extradite the individuals suspected of committing the recent shooting at the Mall of America. The Governor, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman will coordinate to ensure the swift extradition of the suspects, who were apprehended yesterday afternoon in Chicago, back to Minnesota.

Governor Walz Announces State’s Continued Efforts to Increase Safety Throughout Minneapolis and Metro Transit

On Thursday, Governor Walz announced the state will maintain the state law enforcement’s unprecedented presence in the Twin Cities metro area through the Minnesota State Fair. Additionally, Governor Walz announced Metro Transit will be increasing patrol visibility to deter crime at and around its metro stations.

Governor Walz has deployed the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Minnesota State Patrol to work to reduce the rise in crimes involving guns, carjackings, street racing, and other violent crimes plaguing metro communities. Since spring, Governor Walz allocated nearly $7 million federal American Rescue Plan funds towards the state’s public safety efforts.

Governor Walz Announces 2023 Governor’s Fishing Opener to be Held in Mankato

On Monday, Governor Walz announced that Mankato will host the 75th Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener on May 12-13 of 2023. This is just the fifth time since 1948 that the Governor's Fishing Opener will be held in Southern Minnesota. 

Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan, Business Leaders Discuss Workforce Training and Job Creation in Owatonna

Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan, and Department of Employment and Economic Development Commissioner Steve Grove met with Minnesota business leaders in Owatonna discuss ways to expand the economy by addressing staffing shortages and ensuring Minnesotans can get connected to job and skills training opportunities.

Governor Walz Authorizes Relief for Fuel Transportation to Lower Gas Prices

On Friday, Governor Walz renewed emergency regulatory relief to make the transportation of fuel more efficient and help make gas more affordable for Minnesota families.

“As families see the price of gas fall from their record highs, we continue to do what we can to drive prices down and make fuel as affordable and accessible as possible,” said Governor Walz. “As drivers and suppliers struggle to keep up with demand, this action will provide relief from regulations and allow fuel to be efficiently transported across our state.”

Governor Walz Announces Minnesota Ranked as a Top State to Raise a Family

On Wednesday, Governor Walz announced that Minnesota is WalletHub’s 3rd best state to have a baby and 4th best state for health care. Minnesota was also ranked third in KIDS COUNT’s 2022 state-by-state comparison of child well-being based on economic well-being, education, and health data. Minnesota’s high health care ranking was based on cost, access, and outcomes.

Governor Walz, Wisconsin Governor Evers Seek Federal Funds for Major Duluth-Superior Bridge Project

Governor Walz, together with Wisconsin Governor Evers, announced their departments of transportation will seek $889.5 million in federal funding to rebuild the John A. Blatnik Bridge between Duluth, Minnesota, and Superior, Wisconsin.

“I’m proud to partner with Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers to ensure the Blatnik bridge gets the funding it needs to be completed safely and efficiently,” said Governor Walz. “This is an important infrastructure project for Northern Minnesota, our neighbors in Wisconsin, and our interconnected economies. We look forward to moving forward on this project.”

Governor Walz Secures Tornado, Flooding Recovery Assistance

On Wednesday, Governor Walz announced that President Biden has approved his request for a major disaster declaration for 23 northern counties impacted by severe storms, winds, and flooding. 

“This spring’s severe weather devastated homes and businesses across our state – but we continue to work with our partners at the local and federal levels to recover,” said Governor Walz. “I’m grateful for this assistance as we work to rebuild.”
