The Moraine Valley Community College Automotive Technology Program earned Master Automobile Service Technology reaccreditation – the highest level – by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation.

This is a five-year certification cycle that rigorously assesses the college’s Automobile Technician Training Program. Nationally accepted standards of excellence in areas such as instruction, facilities and equipment were used, and an on-site evaluation took place in October. The ASE Education Foundation is a nonprofit, independent organization that evaluates and accredits entry-level technician training programs against standards developed by the automotive industry.

“This is great news for automotive-minded young people and their parents,” said Michael Coley, ASE Education Foundation president. “Because this program increases cooperation between local education and industry leaders, it gives added assurance that Moraine Valley’s graduates will be employable entry-level technicians. As a result of the quality education provided by Moraine Valley, the motoring public will benefit since better repair technicians will join the workforce.”

Moraine Valley’s MOPAR Career Automotive Program (CAP) provides manufacturer-specific training and hands-on experience working at a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat or Maserati dealership. Students can earn an associate degree in automotive technology and a MOPAR CAP diploma. Students also can choose to enroll in the Nissan Training Academy at the college.

“Maintaining our Master Automobile Service Technology accreditation is incredibly important for the college, our programs, our students and the community. It proves that our facilities, programs, courses and faculty meet strict industry standards to ensure our students are properly trained for employment in the automotive service industry,” said Ira Siegel, professor and program coordinator of automotive technology at Moraine Valley. “This certification also is a requirement for maintaining our manufacturer partnerships.”
