Arts and Entertainment

July 7, 2023

From: Museum Of Chinese In America

Dear Friends,

2023 has been a year of change for the museum. This new chapter in MOCA's 43-year history will be one of many that reflect the successes and challenges of creating a permanent national arts and cultural space within the larger AANHPI community. The current phase has breathed new life into the space at 215 Centre Street with more public hours, dynamic programming, meaningful community engagement, and robust collaborations.

In April, the museum welcomed Interim ED Nina Curley who has been spearheading the museum's capital campaign and transition planning. The museum's board is engaged in the search for MOCA's next president.

Starting July 5th, the museum will have public hours FIVE DAYS A WEEK.

Monday - Tuesday: CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC. SCHOOL & TOUR GROUPS ONLY
Wednesday: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Thursday: 2:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Friday: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Saturday: 11:00 - 6:00 PM
Sunday: 11:00 - 4:00 PM

Finally, we are thrilled to announce the 2023 Legacy Awards Gala will take place on November 8, 2023, and honor Chinese Americans from across the country. Listen to this wonderful podcast, Your Hometown, with our honoree, Sewell Chan, and hear him talk about his upbringing in and love for NYC.

We hope to see you soon at the museum!

With gratitude,
The MOCA Team

SPONSOR AN OBJECT

Restoration of damaged objects during the five-alarm fire at 70 Mulberry Street in 2020 continues. We need your support to continue this work. Each object needs to be fully sponsored in order for the restoration work to begin with the conservator.

While we were able to save 90% of the collection at 70 Mulberry, the remaining pieces that were water-damaged require painstaking documentation and dedicated resources from the MOCA team, before going to specialists for restoration.

To date, three objects have been restored with the support of donors and 19 objects await restoration, with potential objects in the future. The Collections team continues to process each and every object in the collection to assess condition and restoration priorities.

Donations to sponsor an object are restricted to the specific object and require full sponsorship before restoration work can commence.
