LOS ANGELES (June 15, 2022) — Odyssey Theatre Ensemble has announced the formation of Writers’ Odyssey, a non-traditional playwriting community conceived by playwright Velina Hasu Houston (Tea), who joins the program as associate artist, and facilitated by Odyssey Theatre literary manager Sally Essex-Lopresti.

Writers’ Odyssey provides a supportive, mindful environment for the cultivation of new work that highlights challenges relevant to our evolving and diverse society. The community differs from other playwriting groups in that development of new work will be complemented with a mindfulness element and a social outreach dimension.

Participating playwrights include Boni B. Alvarez, Diana Burbano, Paula L. Cizmar, Donald Jolly, Carlos Lacámara, Jennifer Maisel, Lina Patel, L. Trey Wilson and Elizabeth Wong, each of whom, together with Houston, will work to create meaningful new original work for the theater.
