Recovery Within Reach

On Tuesday, the Department of Commerce launched a new awareness campaign called Recovery Within Reach, which is aimed at helping families living with an opioid use disorder understand the financial costs of treatment programs or how to find financial support. The new initiative is designed to train Ohio’s financial advisers and connect the general public with critical information about the economic impact of opioid addiction on families. Individuals will learn how and where to find treatment through a new mapping system and will be encouraged to work with a licensed financial professional to address the cost of treatment.

“Substance use disorder knows no age group, demographic or income category, which is why our administration made a commitment to all Ohioans to invest in the battle against opioids,” said Governor Mike DeWine. “Ohio is leading the way in innovative ways to reach families dealing with addiction and Recovery Within Reach is another tool in our toolbox.”

On Wednesday,  Governor DeWine announced that he is investing an additional $2.1 million to assist Ohio college students with disabilities.

Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) will provide all eligible college students with disabilities up to $1000, while participating in OOD services, to be used for tuition or educational expenses during the 2022-2023 school year.

“Higher education and a successful future should be available for all students,” said Governor DeWine. “By supporting college students with disabilities through services from OOD and its partners, they are afforded a greater opportunity of success as they transition from academic life to in-demand careers.”

Also on Wednesday, Governor DeWine was in Gallia County to discuss grant funding awarded to both the Gallipolis Police Department and Gallia County Sheriff's Office through Governor DeWine's Ohio Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program

Lastly on Wednesday, Governor DeWine toured the Collins Career Technical Center. While visiting, the Governor met with students and members of the school’s business advisory council.

On Thursday, Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted attended the Winsupply Inc. building dedication of the Richard W. Schwartz Center for Innovation.

On Friday, Governor DeWine and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Director Annette Chambers-Smith announced that nearly $51 million in grant funding is now available to support construction, renovation, and other infrastructure improvements at Ohio’s county jails.

Governor DeWine worked in partnership with the Ohio General Assembly to secure the new funding for the Ohio Jail Safety and Security Program in the current capital budget.

“Our continued investment in Ohio’s local jails is a public safety investment that benefits everyone involved,” said Governor DeWine. “This funding will go a long way toward creating safer and more secure jails for Ohio’s communities.”
