The Irving Police Department will participate in a DWI Enforcement Initiative during the Memorial Day holiday to help #EndTheStreakTX of daily deaths on Texas roadways. DWI unit officers will be on-duty and primarily focused on locating and arresting impaired drivers. The enforcement period will be between May 27 and May 30.

During that time, the participating officers will concentrate their efforts on DWI patrols in high-risk sites and at times when impaired drivers are on the roadways causing an increased potential for alcohol-related crashes involving injuries or deaths. The high visibility and enforcement efforts should serve as a warning to those who would drive while impaired.

Irving police and TxDOT encourage people to "Plan While You Can" to avoid the consequences of impaired driving and asks motorists to consider using taxi or car services, designating a sober driver or taking public transportation as an alternative to driving after drinking. A person’s abilities, decision-making skills and judgment can diminish while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Motorists and their passengers are requested to call 9-1-1 if they see a suspected drunk driver and can call safely.
