"On June 6th, I join all Americans in honoring the 160,000 Allied troops who landed in Normandy and stormed its beaches in defense of freedom. Their breathtaking courage in the face of insurmountable odds changed the course of the war and protected the entire world from evil.
"Learning about my father's service in New Guinea during these years was my first exposure to the meaning of sacrifice as a young boy. It left an unforgettable impression on me that I carry with me to this on June 6th.
"God bless the brave veterans of World War II who defended our nation. We will never forget your service, and we will never stop safeguarding the values for which you fought."
