The annual "Shake Rag Festival" is held in Shake Rag Historic District, which was once a solid and well-established community, starting in the 1800s, with teachers, doctors, schools, diners, hotels, and grocery stores. A very thriving community that African Americans think back on and remember as a reminder of progress regardless of social and economic hardships.

Hosting the Shake Rag Festival is a way to celebrate and commemorate the Shake Rag Historic District as a new iteration of what it was like back then while bringing people from all walks of life together to build meaningful relationships. The event consists of fellowship, food, and fun to educate and empower the new generation
while gaining even more knowledge of the elders.

So come on out to this free event, bring your lawn chairs, and get ready to have a good time!!
