Teen Room Updates

If you've visited the library recently you may know that I'll be on leave for a while! Don't worry, we'll still have excellent events in the Teen Room while I'm gone, and you'll see other members of the library staff helping out in the afternoons. I look forward to seeing everyone when I return and hearing about what you've been up to!

DISASTER AT MOON BASE ARTEMIS
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 29TH, 2:00-2:45 PM AND 3:30-4:15 PM

In space, no one can hear you scream… with excitement, as you conquer our Escape Room: Disaster at Moon Base Artemis! Adventurers are invited to test their wits, speed, and teamwork as you find clues, solve puzzles, and prevent an AI from destroying humanity’s home on the moon. 

Escape Room sessions will last approximately 30-45 minutes. Please sign up for ONLY ONE session or waitlist. Each participant must sign up individually. Each session has room for 6 participants - coordinate with your friends! Sessions may be canceled if there are an insufficient number of participants registered.

Enjoy a special evening with two of the country's top young adult authors as Maureen Johnson (Nine Liars) is interviewed by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (The Final Gambit), in this ZOOM webinar. 

Maureen Johnson is the #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than a dozen young adult novels, including the Truly Devious series, the Shades of London series, Suite Scarlett, and 13 Little Blue Envelopes. Her collaborative books include Ghosts of the Shadow Market (with Cassandra Clare), as well as Let It Snow (with John Green and Lauren Myracle), which was also a hit feature film on Netflix. Maureen's books have sold more than three million copies worldwide and have been published in more than thirty countries. She grew up in Philadelphia, graduated from the University of Delaware and has an MFA in Writing from Columbia University. Maureen lives in New York City with her husband and dog.

Jennifer Lynn Barnes is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of more than twenty acclaimed young adult novels, including The Inheritance Games trilogy, Little White Lies, Deadly Little Scandals, The Lovely and the Lost, and The Naturals series. Jen is also a Fulbright Scholar with advanced degrees in psychology, psychiatry, and cognitive science. She received her Ph.D. from Yale University in 2012 and was a professor of psychology and professional writing for many years.

SELF IMPROVEMENT CLUB

GRADES 5-8

Have you ever questioned whether anything you learn in school will be useful? This self-improvement club is for you, because topics like productivity, mental and social wellness are 100% sure to be helpful for your future. Students are invited to join us to explore self improvement, productivity, self reflection, and happiness. You will be sure to learn something useful while also having fun! These sessions are led by Arnav N. and Harish R. of Shrewsbury High School.  A new topic will be presented at each meeting. 

No registration necessary. 

RUBIK'S CUBE CLUB
SUNDAYS, JANUARY 8TH - 29TH, 2:00-3:00 PM

Are you interested in a brain teaser? A way to challenge your mind and have fun at the same time? Or maybe you just want to solve a new puzzle! If you said yes to any of these questions, consider joining our Rubik's Cube Club! This weekly club is led by Rama B., an SHS junior and an experienced puzzle solver. Each week we'll work on new cube puzzles, so feel free to attend as many meetings as you'd like. 

No registration necessary. 

'80s TRIVIA NIGHT

YMCA YOURTH CORPS
TUESDAYS, JANUARY 10TH - 31ST, 6:30-8:00 PM

TEENS 13+

The Shrewsbury Public Library is excited to partner with the YMCA for a brand new leadership training program for high school students. This 4 week program will provide participants with leadership training,  job readiness skills, and CPR & first aid training. All registrants will be required to complete a formal application that will be emailed to them.

Participants may choose to attend sessions at the library or at the Boroughs Family Branch of the Y and should register for the location that is most convenient. Please note that the session involving CPR training will only take place at the Y.

This Friday, we bring the art supplies, you bring the doodles. Drop in for some unstructured art fun with markers, colored pencils, tissue paper, pom poms, googly eyes, glitter, and whatever else is on the table.

What is Teen Advisory? It's a way for you to connect with the library and make your voice heard. It's a chance to see your ideas and opinions come to life. It's an easy way to earn volunteer credit by attending monthly meetings.  Join us to meet some new people, eat snacks, and help us make our Teen Room (and library) THE BEST!
