Skokie Idol is back, with new rules and a new format..

The contest is open to everyone, ages 8 - 98, regardless of where you live. Contestants will be assigned to divisions based on age groups. Each division will have its own winner.

Unlike other contests, there are no weekly eliminations.  Players will receive a minimum of six song challenges. Four challenges will be recorded and submitted online. The fifth and sixth challenges will be performed live at Skokie Theatre

Your first song can be any style of music you like. It will not be scored and is your introduction to the contest. Send it to us right away. You will receive your next song challenge every time we receive a song from you.

You can sing to a track. You can sing a cappella. You can have someone accompany you. But you must be the only singer. (Occasionally, a pre-recorded song track contains background singers. That's ok as long as you sing the lead).

Record your songs on your phone or your tablet. You could also record then in a zoom session, or have a friend record you on a handicam. Every time you submit a song you will be sent your next challenge. Each challenge is a different category of music, so each week will give you an opportunity for something new.

Many contestants enjoy the challenge of playing for themselves. Others prefer to sing to a track. It's all up to you.

Your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th songs will be presented in a weekly Zoom show starting on January 15, and you will be asked to sing a song in the musical category that we've chosen for the week. Past categories have included Broadway, Country & Western, Beatles, Big Band, 60’s, etc. but there will be some new categories this year.

You will receive votes from the public, plus votes from our judges along with their written comments and tips. Our panel of judges is comprised of vocalists, musicians, and casting directors from all over Chicago, so this is your chance to receive free coaching from industry professionals.

For your 5th and 6th songs, you will be asked to sing live at the Skokie Theatre. Your friends and family will have to attend in person to vote for you and you will receive immediate feedback from the judges.

At this point we will add up the weekly scores. The contestants who rank in the top half will be invited back to perform live in the semi-finals on February 25. We will drop your lowest week's score to compute the rankings, so there's no worry if you had to miss a song, or had difficulty with one of the song categories.

The top scoring semi-finalists will be invited back to sing live in our finals on March 10, 2022. The top scoring finalist in each division will win the Skokie Idol title.

GRAND PRIZE: The Skokie Idol winners from each division will be featured live in a concert performance in the summer of 2023.
