You're invited! S4A's artists are hosting three special events in August in the co-live space at Space 4 Art.

Nicole Gonzalez is partnering with Brighter Futures to offer a Chronic Craft Circle on Saturday, August 5, from 12:00-3:00 pm, both virtually and at S4A. All ages, genders, and abilities are welcome to this free event. See S4A’s website for more details.

Also on August 5, from 6:00-8:00 pm, Alaric López invites interested folks to attend an intermedia poetry recital-- a presentation of part of their MFA thesis project (tentatively titled Where Was I?). Poetry, performance, video, mixed “non-art” materials, and implied sound all work together in this project. See S4A’s website for more details about this free event.

On Saturday, August 26, from 2:00-3:30 pm, join artists C Fodoreanu and Linda Litteral for book talks.

C’s book, Ode to the Lake Sacalaia, explores the tension of self-discovery and identity, queer or not, and the in-between states of one’s self-awareness. It pays homage to younger selves searching for faith and ideals, and reconnects to what holds one true to oneself. Click here to learn more about C’s book.

Linda’s courageous memoir, Show and Tell: Healing From Trauma Through Art, shares the story of her abuse and its physical and psychological effects. It catalogs various healing modalities she has practiced through the decades, and details how, ultimately, the power of creating and sharing her art helped her actively begin her healing journey. What if we all gave on one day? We can! On Thursday, September 7, the San Diego community will come together for 24 hours of unprecedented collective philanthropy through San Diego Gives. This online movement will celebrate and support the work of local nonprofits responding to our area’s greatest needs. Space 4 Art is excited once again to be part of this local giving day.

If you’ve attended any of our events, you know S4A strives to keep all our Open Studios and Art Shows free to the public while simultaneously maintaining affordable rent for artists to live and work. On September 7, join us online here as we raise funds to help keep our events Free 4 All.

In recent weeks, two articles from The San Diego Union-Tribune have caught our attention. Both confirm exactly why Space 4 Art’s mission of providing affordable live-work spaces for artists in San Diego is so critical right now. Click here to read both articles.
