2022 Director Roundtables Conclude

Over 200 Directors attended 15 roundtables around the state

A sincere thank you to each of our host libraries this year. We had over 200 directors at 15 roundtables throughout the state. It was so exciting to get out, see what libraries are up to, get a peek into how space is being used, and snoop on all the cool stuff starting up for summer.

Our topic this year was "Make Room for Yes," based on the book When to Say Yes: The Five Steps to Protect Your Time by Don Khouri (OCLC). Librarians shared how they:

-- Use tools like their strategic plan when evaluating new funding opportunities, programs, or partnerships.

-- Evaluate priorities for requests and projects: Who's asking? Is it a "Quality Request"? What should I stop doing to do this instead?

-- Delegate strategically to empower staff and volunteers and save their own time for other tasks.

I made it to one Roundtable in each event in each district. (Phew -- a lot of road time, but wouldn't miss it!). I did not take as many pictures as I should have, but I did manage to snag a couple from Marshalltown, Oskaloosa, Iowa Falls, Sioux City, Carroll, and Sumner. Please browse below! And be sure to look up any of those libraries if you're ever in their area.

Where should I visit next...? Let me know if you've got something exciting going on and want a visitor from Des Moines :) Best wishes for a happy summer!
