Director Roundtables
The 2023 Director Roundtables will kick off on May 9 in State Center; the first of 17 locations across the state in May, with multiple events to choose from in each district!
A longtime staple in the Continuing Education calendar, those who attend will have the chance to learn from their district consultant, network with their peers, and apply new learning in their library. This event is another way we “dig deep” into the annual CE theme!
This year’s Director Roundtables will follow our overall education theme for 2023: Productive Partnerships. Come ready to share success stories about the productive partnerships your library enjoys!

In this webinar we showcase the tips and tricks to write great grant proposals to increase your likelihood of getting funding. Beyond “UNPLUG IT, STAT”: Cybersecurity Incident Response Plan Workshop
Wednesday, May 3, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
When faced with a cybersecurity incident, our first response is probably to unplug the computer and never plug it back in, but there’s so much more to it than that. In this session (presented by Ryan Mulhall, Chief Information Officer of the Iowa Communications Network (ICN)), participants will learn about cybersecurity, the risks, and some common attacks.

Pop YS Live (May 2023) | Decoding Dyslexia
Wednesday, May 10, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Nina Lorimor-Easley, Assistant Director of the Iowa Reading Research Center, representing Decoding Dyslexia Iowa, will be presenting on the basics of dyslexia. In addition, this session will discuss how librarians can recognize and assist students who may be struggling with reading and writing or may have dyslexia.

This webinar will provide information about screen readers (JAWS, Voiceover, NVDA, Narrator), An overview of NVDA (free option for all) will be provided including how to install and use on public computers. We’ll also highlight keyboard shortcuts that any user will find helpful.

Next up in the Big Ideas Book Discussion series is “Unreasonable Hospitality: The Remarkable Power of Giving People More Than They Expect” (c2022), a debut title by Will Guidara. This webinar suggests practical approaches that help pave the way for new directors and ease the learning curve. We’ll look at a “Pay It Forward Checklist,” an annual calendar of program deadlines, and the board’s involvement in helping their directors through this period of adjustment. Plus, library boards should work on their own brand of transition planning … ideas for that, too!
