Disaster Response Planning Series

We enjoyed a fabulous day of learning and networking at the Oct. 20 Learning Circuit on the theme of disaster preparedness. 

To continue that conversation, all Iowa librarians are invited to related events throughout November & December. These Zoom events will be recorded, and attendance at the 2022 Learning Circuit is not a requirement for attendance at these follow-ups. Click the dates to register for each event in IA Learns.

It's (Not) Going According to Plan: Panel Discussion on Disaster Preparedness Planning in Libraries

Tuesday, November 29 at 9:30 a.m.
Join several Iowa librarians who have led their libraries through various types of disasters. Each brings a unique perspective on how having a disaster preparedness plan in place (or NOT having a plan in place) contributed to the speed and success of the recovery process.

Boardroom Series 2022 (November) | Policy Watch: Policies Lost and Found

Wednesday, November 30 at 6:00 p.m.
Learning Circuit keynote speaker Rachel Onuf will be back to encourage your Board members to get involved in the disaster planning process. Bonnie McKewon will follow that up with other policies beyond disaster planning that the board may want to consider in any upcoming policy planning meetings.

Now What? Caring for Self, Staff, and Community After a Disaster

Wednesday, December 7 at 10:00 a.m.
After this webinar, attendees will feel more equipped to care for staff during and after difficult times; offer an outlet for support, creativity, and learning to a community in stress; and not lose sight of self-care needs as you serve those around you.

I Didn't See that Coming! What to do With Your Collection When Things Go Sideways

Tuesday, December 13 at 3:00 p.m.
Joy Stortvedt (from the IMALERT team) will teach us the best ways to not only recover your collection during and after a disaster, but more importantly, prepare before disaster strikes.

ILOC Call For Proposals

Believe it or not, ILOC is just a couple short months away (save the date for January 26, 2023)! This year's conference will be all about "Productive Partnerships". 

The ILOC conference will encourage attendees to implement partnerships that make a difference in the lives of community members and benefit more than just a few statistics.

Iowa Public Libraries Psychosocial Needs Assessment Results with Dr. Beth Wahler

Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Dr. Beth Wahler, Director and Professor at the UNC Charlotte School of Social Work, will provide an overview of the 2022 needs assessment results of Iowa Public Libraries. In this presentation, Dr. Wahler will review the findings of the needs assessment and will discuss the recommendations and next steps.
