League of Cities Webinar This Week

Re: Property Taxes and Special Levies

A webinar this Wednesday June 28 is of special significance because it will offer an explanation of House File 718, legislation recently passed by the Iowa Legislature this spring.  The webinar begins at 10:00AM, followed by a Q&A session at 11:15AM.  We encourage you to attend both, but please note: if you plan to join both the webinar and the Q&A session, you will need to register for both; registration links are provided below.

Iowa League of Cities Research Director Erin Mullenix, along with Ted Nellesen from the Iowa Department of Management, will explain House File 718.  One key piece of this legislation is the consolidation of numerous levies (including the 27Cent Library Levy) into one adjusted city general fund levy.  This webinar will be recorded by the League.

Following the 10:00AM program, representatives from the League of Cities and the State Library will be on hand to answer your questions about HF718 and its potential impact on your library and city budgets. This session will not be recorded.

Important Background Behind This Webinar

Again, House File 718 was passed by the Iowa Legislature this spring and relates to property taxes in Iowa.  Among other things, HF718 concerns special levies that dozens of Iowa cities and towns have passed over the years.  One of the available special levies that benefited public libraries through additional funding was referred to as the Special Library Levy or the 27Cent Library Levy
