STRATFORD LIBRARY OFFERS KIDS EVENTS IN JULY

Summer Reading Sign-Ups

Sign-ups for Stratford Library’s 2023 Summer Reading Program for kids of all ages continue throughout July. This year’s theme is Find Your Voice! Young children can sign up for the Read to Me program – complete activities for monthly prizes and a “Purple Party” in September. Readers through age 12 can sign up for the Summer Reading Program – read books to earn monthly prizes and an invitation to the Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge, hosted by the Library and the Mayor’s office in August. July Storytimes

The Stratford Library Children’s Department offers weekly storytimes for children. Storytimes meet at 10:30 am. Mondays is Music Time for ages 0-2. Tuesdays is Preschool Storytime for ages 3-5. Weekly Summer Craft

The Stratford Library Children’s Department will offer a weekly craft table throughout the summer reading program. The craft table hours will be Mondays-Thursdays 10am-12pm & 2:30-6:30pm, and Fridays from 10am-12pm. Ages 0-12 are welcome to drop by. Counting Animals Grab & Go Kit Week 3

Learn how to count from 1-10 with the Stratford Library Children’s Department grab & go kits on counting animals for children ages 2-6. Numbers are listed in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. All other materials in the kit are in English. Kits are available each week in July, and pick-ups begin on Mondays. Registration is required. Book Scientists Kits Hobbies

Discover a new hobby at the Stratford Library with a Hobby Book Scientist kit for ages 3-12. Sign up to receive a kit with a craft, information about hobbies, and books selected based on the age of the child participating. Check out the library books, and when you are done, return the Library books by their due date and keep everything else! Pick up begins on Friday, July 7. Junior Scientists Bubbles

Join the Stratford Library Children’s Department for a Junior Scientists activity for younger children ages 3-7 on Friday, July 7 at 3:00pm outside in the courtyard. LEGO Club

Stuffed Animal Sleepover & Picnic

The Stratford Library is inviting your teddy bear to find out what happens at the Library after dark! Children ages 2-9 can drop off their stuffed furry pals on Tuesday, July 11 from 4:30-6:30pm and pick them up on Wednesday, July 12 at 11:00am for our Teddy Bear Picnic outside in the courtyard. Weather permitting. Families will also receive a link to a video showing all the fun the stuffed animals had at the Library! Registration required. Treehouse Science Perler Beads

Join the Stratford Library Children’s Department at our STEAM Treehouse table for some fun with Perler beads on Friday, July 14 from 2:30-4:00pm. Children ages 7-12 welcome. Board Games

The Stratford Library invites you to enjoy Board Games on Monday, July 17 for kids ages 5-12. Stop by anytime between 2:00-4:00pm. Learn some new games or enjoy a family favorite! Jay Reidy Magic Show

Stratford Library’s favorite magician is back for another summer of fun on Wednesday, July 19. There will be a 2pm show or a 3:15 show. Ages 5-12 are welcome to join in the magic fun. Upcycle Sewing

Join the Stratford Library for this fun summer sewing program on Thursday, July 20 at 10:00am and learn how to convert your old T-shirt into a new bag! You bring a clean T-shirt and we’ll provide the sewing tools needed. Ages 9 to adult are welcome to attend. Registration is required. Pearl Beaded Bracelets

Join the Stratford Library Children’s Department on Saturday, July 22 at 10:30am to learn how to create some fabulous beaded bracelets. Ages 9 to adult are welcome. No previous experience needed but participants should be able to work with small beads. Materials are provided. Registration required. Nutmeg Book Group

Stratford Library is offering the Nutmeg Book Group for children entering grades 4-6 this summer. Each month, children will read and discuss one of the 2024 CT Nutmeg Book Award intermediate titles. July’s pick will be Get A Grip, Vivy Cohen! Read the book & then join us on Zoom for a book discussion on Monday, July 24 at 7 pm. One Grab ‘n’ Go kit per family. Potato Chip Tasting

The Stratford Library Children’s Department will be offering a Potato Chip Tasting on Tuesday July 25 from 3pm-5pm. What will Stratford’s favorite flavor be? Try them all and vote on the best flavor! While supplies last. Results will be posted to social media. Anyone ages 4 and up are welcome to attend – children should have a grown-up with them. Tom Knight’s Musical Puppet Show

The Stratford Library Children’s Department will offer a Musical Puppet Show on Wednesday, July 26 at 11am in the Lovell Room for children ages 3-7. Parent’s Night Out

Join the Stratford Library Children’s Department on Monday, July 31 from 6-8pm for a Parent’s Night Out! Parents can drop off their children ages 5-11 in the Children’s Department for a fun craft and other activities while they enjoy a concert downstairs in the Lovell Room featuring Chris from the Leaf Jumpers Band. At Intermission, parents are invited to try some non-alcoholic beer selections while supplies last. Registration is required.
