Spooky Season at TPL
Join us for the start of spooky season at the library as we celebrate Halloween with a full week of spooky fun activities for kids from Oct. 24 through Oct. 31. There will be fun activities all day long throughout the week in the Youth Library, starting on Oct. 24, including scavenger hunts with fun prizes at the end and a Halloween themed storytime for all ages.

On Monday, Oct. 31, children and their families can come in their spookiest costumes and join us for some trick-or-treating fun throughout the library from 10 to 11 a.m. You wont want to miss this Spooktacular library event!

Bats, Ghosts, Oh My!

Ghost Hunting - Oct. 12 (All Ages)
Join the AZ Paranormal Investigations & Research Society as they explain the different types of equipment used to record the paranormal as well as basic investigation procedures. Evidence that was collected at some of the most haunted locations in Arizona will also be shown. REGISTER

Halloween Poetry Workshop - Oct. 15
Join author Austin Davis for a poetry workshop where you will learn to analyze horror poetry and participate in an open poetry mic segment. All poetry experience levels welcome. Before the workshop, write a poem on the prompt "What haunts you?" and bring the poem to share and read out loud. REGISTER.

Creature Feature: All About Bats!
Oct. 30 (All Ages)
Did you know that Arizona has more species of bats than almost every other state? Join us as an educator from the Arizona Game and Fish Department talks about Arizona's remarkable bat diversity and addresses some common myths associated with these creatures. Find out about Arizona bat viewing opportunities and places around the valley that you can go bat watching! REGISTER

Tempe Writing Contest

Sharpen your pencils and warm up your laptop for the 9th annual Tempe Writing and Cover Design Contests.

New to the contest this year is the theme Possibilities. Ours is a world of possibility. How do you embrace the world? What are your stories, your musings, your imaginings about chance, about risk, about likelihood, about hope?

What are the possibilities? 

All entries submitted, including the Cover Design, must use the designated theme. Submissions start Jan. 9 and run through Feb. 13, 2023. For all the contest details and submission guidelines: INFORMATION

Book Club Social - Oct. 22

Do you attend any of the library's book clubs? Are you in interested in learning more? Come socialize with book club members and chat about favorite books and what you're reading now. Who knows, maybe you will want to join another one! Light refreshments available. No registration required. INFORMATION

Mind-Body Mondays

Teens, come explore the foundations of mental health and physical wellness every Monday. With a focus on Compassionate Mind and Mindfulness techniques, teens will learn strategies to effectively manage stress, anxiety and emotional discomfort in a safe and supportive space. Do you love music? Teens, join us in the Teen Center every Tuesday to listen to, talk about, and play your favorite tracks, movie scores, cover songs, music videos and more. Registration is not required. INFORMATION.
