Voluntary Water Conservation

Manchester has asked residents to voluntarily conserve water over the past few weeks due to the current drought conditions. Here are simple actions we can ALL take to protect our water supply.

1. Limit Irrigation Systems: If you have to use it do so early in the morning or later in the evening, when temperatures are cooler. Consider only hand watering from 5 PM to 8 AM.

2. Use a broom or blower instead of a hose to clean leaves and other debris from your driveway or sidewalk.

3. Avoid leaving sprinklers or hoses unattended. A garden hose can pour out 600 gallons or more in only a few hours.

4. Avoid flushing the toilet unnecessarily. Dispose of tissues, insects and other similar waste in the trash rather than the toilet.

5. Take short showers instead of baths. Turn on the water only to get wet and lather and then again to rinse off.

6. Avoid letting the water run while brushing your teeth, washing your face or shaving.
