OAKLAND HERITAGE DAY RETURNS ON JAN. 28

Oakland Heritage Day, presented by Orlando Health and in partnership with Healthy West Orange and the Oakland Nature Preserve, returns in 2023 to commemorate Oakland's 135th anniversary. The time-honored festival will be revitalized with fresh, new experiences tailored for both longtime and new residents alike.

The festival celebrates Oakland's small-town charm, unique history, nature, wellness and the arts with a family-friendly day of live music, food trucks, fine arts and crafts, quality vendors, interactive kids' activities, and more.

It will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Historic downtown Oakland.

OAKLAND CELEBRATES 135TH ANNIVERSARY

The Oakland Town Commission and the West Orange Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors celebrated the 135-year anniversary of the Town of Oakland.

The office of Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings proclaimed Dec. 13, 2022 as Town of Oakland Day in Orange County.

A day spent in the Town will take you back in time to the old, quaint Florida of yesterday - even as new residents begin to discover what just a few have known for generations.

Established in 1887, it is one of the oldest municipalities in Orange County. Oakland is a diverse, thriving and growing small community noted for its laid-back lifestyle and majestic oak trees.

It operates under a Commission/Manager form of local government with a Mayor, Kathy Stark, and four Commissioners elected at-large.

OAKLAND PD GETS IN THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT

The Oakland Police Department collected hundreds of toys benefitting 63 kids during its Annual Christmas Toy Drive in December, including a large donation from the Oakland Avenue Charter School.

"Each year, residents and businesses have generously donated to our toy drive, which we greatly appreciate/ Oakland Police Chief Darron Esan said. "By helping us spread the joy this holiday season you are making a difference in a child's life."

In addition to donations, the Oakland Police Department has also been able to purchase hundreds of toys thanks to financial contributions.

Additionally, Chief Esan and officers from the Oakland Police Department joined the Clermont Police Department for "Holidays with Heroes" at the Walmart in Clermont. They had a wonderful time helping the children pick out items.

Chief Esan also had the pleasure of judging the holiday decorations in the Johns Cove neighborhood earlier this month._
