As we enter into a heat wave, the Town of Scituate would like to remind residents to be safe and take breaks when working and playing outside.  We would also like to remind residents that the Water Division is in Tier 2 Water Restrictions.  This means no use of automatic irrigation and only handheld hoses are allowed before 9 am and after 5 pm. Increased demand in the summer months can only be met by running the Surface Water Treatment Plant (SWTP).  It is during this time period (hot summer months) that elevated levels of Manganese occur in the raw water feeding the SWTP.  Our existing SWTP is not designed to remove Manganese.  Manganese out in the water system causes yellow, brown and eventually black water.  Reducing nonessential outdoor water use will directly impact the demand on our existing SWTP.
