Town Of Westbrook News Voluntary Water Conservation Request

Government and Politics

July 19, 2022

From: Town Of Westbrook

Due to the lack of rain, Connecticut Water has reached the first communication required in their drought response plan. The current weather forecast does not look promising over the next week and we will continue to evaluate our water supply situation to ensure we have adequate resources for essential domestic uses and public fire protection.

THE TEXT OF THE EMAIL FOLLOWS:

This is a message from Connecticut Water. You are receiving this message because you are a customer of our water system that serves Clinton, Guilford, Madison, Old Saybrook and Westbrook.
Due to drier than normal conditions, we are asking you to voluntarily reduce water usage by 10%. Your water system is quickly approaching a drought advisory, the first of four levels in our drought response plan.
By reducing water usage, you will help extend available water supplies to meet essential public health and safety needs.

Some things you can do:
Stop watering lawns
Shutoff automatic irrigation systems
Fix leaking fixtures
Minimize all other unnecessary outdoor water use
Once again, this is a request for voluntary water conservation, but if usage is not reduced or we do not receive much need rain – more stringent measures will need to be taken.
