Weston COA Community Updates
September Reflections & October Featured Programs

A September to Remember...

As the song goes, we absolutely do remember the 21st night of September! The Bill & Bo Winiker Band performed an outdoor concert of favorite autumn songs, which we enjoyed alongside gourmet cupcakes from Cupcake City's cupcake truck! (Photo by Weston's wonderful Nicole Mordecai.)

Later that same evening, we hosted a panel in honor of the United Nation's International Day of Peace's 'End Racism Build Peace'. The vibrant conversations and thoughtful questions about race and peace left no leaf unturned. For those who missed it, the event was recorded thanks to Weston Media Center Inc., and includes a list of resources for those who are looking to do the work and take the next steps. Thank you to Reverends Alicia Velez-Stewart and James Hairston for sharing their experiences and to Selectperson Laurie Bent for leading us in a thoughtful community discussion.

University of Maryland historian Richard Bell, who usually joins us virtually, presented in person at the COA for an intriguing reconstruction of the life and times of Benedict Arnold. We are excited to announce that he will join us this month on Zoom for The Long Goodbye: The American Revolution in Britain and again in person at the COA in November. (Though, space is limited for this popular speaker so keep an eye out to sign up early!)

No month to remember would be complete without some memorable food! We handed out over 75 World Snack Samplers, filled with a fun sampling of different snack foods from around the globe and had a gorgeous fall day on the water for a private tour of Island Creek Oyster Farm. (Oysters included!)

Are any other foodies drooling over these food photos? We got to enjoy these plates, and many more, this past Wednesday evening on a private 3-hour food tour of the Beacon Hill neighborhood!

We wrapped up the month alongside our friends, neighbors, and colleagues at the WCCA's first Non-Profit Summit. For those looking for volunteer opportunities at the COA, including holiday opportunities, please reach out to our Program & Volunteer Coordinator, Kristen Frady, [email protected]

We did so much more, including a virtual trip to Berlin, an engaging art appreciation program, and some great movies... but we must get to talking about some exciting programs in October!
