Wardell Milan's work combines elements of photography, drawing, painting, and collage. He'll be making art in the Gallery on Tuesday and Wednesday based on his research at the National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) and in the Dom Flemons archive at Vanderbilt Special Collections. We'll have materials on hand to make your own collage during Art for Lunch on Tuesday from 12:30-1:30 in the Gallery.

On Wednesday at 4pm in The Space, Milan will discuss the work he is making while in residence and his interest in musician Dom Flemons’s recovery of stories beyond white cowboy archetypes. Moderated by Kashif A. Graham, Outreach Librarian for Religion & Theology.

The Sound of Art residency is a collaboration between the Art Gallery, the Divinity Library, and NMAAM to engage with an artist who builds on the Gallery’s and the Divinity School’s shared core values of social and economic justice. The residency is supported by the Arts, Discovery and Innovation Fund.

All are welcome to these free events.
