MADISON, Wis. — On May 9th, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin held a press call responding to recently uncovered comments from Eric Hovde that he believes people who struggle with their weight should face “consequences,” should pay more for healthcare, and that he wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act “in its entirety.”

The call featured Wisconsinites who would be affected by Hovde’s cruel healthcare plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act, charge people more, and strip them of their coverage:

  • Tina, a Wisconsinite living with autoimmune disorders;
  • Vik, a Wisconsinite who benefited from insurance coverage from the ACA after a life-threatening accident;
  • Julie, a Wisconsinite living with a rare autoimmune disease;
  • Dustin, a Wisconsinite living with a genetic disorder.

Hovde has said he wants to “defund every aspect of the Affordable Care Act,” saying that he wants to “repeal it in its entirety,” and there were “no ifs, ands, or buts” about the fact he wanted to repeal it. Hovde even specifically said he opposes the provisions protecting the over 850,000 Wisconsinites with pre-existing conditions and the Tammy Baldwin-led measure that lets people stay on their family health plan until age 26.
