Speed Cubing with Tisbury's Robert Riis

Speed Cubing with Robert Riis

Have you ever solved a Rubik's cube? If yes, come show off your skills. If no, come learn how! Robert Riis, Tisbury School student and Speed Cubing Competitor will be on hand to show us a few turns, and talk about Speed Cubing Tournaments,world records and more.

This workshop is brought to you in collaboration with the Riis family, BeWellMV and the Vineyard Haven Public Library. Bring your own cube, and if you can't find yours, a limited number will be available

Traditional Storytime Tuesdays at 10:30 am (Monday Storytime will resume in May)
Join us at the library for weekly story times  at 10:30am! Storytime is now indoors in the downstairs meeting room. No registration is necessary, contact Emily our Children's Librarian for more information!  

Drop-in Lego Club Wednesdays at 3:00 pm!
Come join Emily for an afternoon of creative lego building! Drop-in anytime from 3:00-5:00! No registration required. 

Kids Crafts Thursdays at 3:30 pm!
Join Jennifer for crafts on Thursdays at 3:30pm. Materials are provided and registration is not required, but attendance will be limited to first arrivals, while supplies last. April 6th: Sock Bunnies, April 13th: Custom Pens! Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Pointillism Art Seascape (Inspired by George Seurat)

An adventure in pointillism via Zoom! Join us to create a Seurat-inspired seascape led by Barbara Freiberg, whose credentials include a studio art degree from the University of Binghamton and twenty years experience teaching art classes at libraries for adults, children, families and teens. Sponsored by the Chilmark and Vineyard Haven Libraries. Wednesday Walk the Chop
Walk and Talk Book Club has become ''Walk the Chop'. We will meet every Wednesday at the Library and walk/run or any combination the West Chop loop. Course is not hilly and is just over 3 miles. Not Your Mother's Garden with Deborah Chud
In “Not Your Mother’s Garden”, Deborah Chud takes the audience on a photo tour of her highly unusual Piet-Oudolf-style New Perennial garden and describes the design principles underlying it. Many of the plants are unfamiliar—even to experienced and knowledgeable gardeners. These “New Perennials” were all taken from a distinctive, non-traditional canon of plants, and they exhibit the naturalistic qualities valued by the New Perennialists. This exciting workshop is brought to you by the West Tisbury and Vineyard Haven libraries.

Poetry Prescription with C. I. Marshall

Does your poem needs a visit to a poem doctor? Award-winning poet, C.I. Marshall will listen to you read your poems, ask you questions, then prescribe possible ways to improve them. You will be given a prescription based on your poems' ailments to take home with you. C. I. Marshall received an MFA, Creative Writing, Poetry, from CA State University, Long Beach,B.A. Fine Arts, Mills College and was editor for ARTLIFE Magazine.

Summer of Drawing Replay with Elizabeth Whelan

On Sundays January through March 2023, the Library will replay videos from 2022's "Summer of Drawing" series with artist Elizabeth R. Whelan. This series concentrates on overall technique, composition, skills, and concepts. Join your hosts Elizabeth Whelan and Anne McDonough on Zoom as we revisit all that great classes from last year!  Register

Yoga with Kat : Chair Yoga for Arthritis

Chair Yoga is one of the most gentle forms of yoga. This class is perfect for students recovering from injury or illness, and anyone who wants to experience the many benefits of yoga without having to get up and down from the floor. These sessions will focus on yoga for people who are seeking relief from arthritis. In-person in the basement meeting room.

Memoir Writing with Caroline Joy Adams

We know you have a story to tell. Whether you are currently working on your memoir project or just starting, Caroline Joy Adams will help you find focus and set you on your path. Caroline will lead one session per month through May 2023. Continues April 11th and May 3rd.

Songwriting with Peter Halperin SESSION 3 of 4

This exciting songwriting opportunity wil be led by Peter Halperin, who brought down the house at the Chilmark Jam last November. This program will run both in person and via Zoom, but will not be recorded. Continues May 10th. Contact the library for more info and to register.

Fabulous Women Artists You Probably Never Heard of: Ruth Asawa
Chilmark and Vineyard Haven libraries present a virtual art talk series with Janet Mandel. Janet Mandel taught in New Jersey’s public schools for 32 years, where she taught English, art history, World Languages and Cultures. Now retired, Janet presents illustrated talks on a variety of art history topics at adult schools, libraries, museums, senior centers, community centers, and similar venues.

Library Book Group
Everyone is invited to join us. Book club selections include contemporary fiction and the occasional memoir or non-fiction. Everyone is invited to join us. Friends of the Library Monthly Meeting

The Friends of the Vineyard Haven Public Library always welcome new members! Volunteers and those who are interested in knowing more about the Friends meet at 10:15 am one Saturday each month. Join the Friends

Vineyard Haven Library Spice Club
A new take on a cookbook group, Spice Club meets virtually one Tuesday a month. Registration comes with a sample pack of the spice of the month and a little history about it. You prepare a recipe and then come and discuss your opinions, experiences, and love (or like less!). This month: Zaatar Powder.
