The Board of the Friends of the Winchester Public Library has openings for a few new members. Opportunities include the following:

The library will be open on Sundays from 2-5 starting October 1.

Yarnies at the Library
2nd Tuesday of the Month at 10:00 AM

3rd Thursday of the Month at 12:00 PM

Do you knit or crochet? Do you want to work on a project and talk with other crafters? Then this group is for you! Bring along current project, or join us to gather ideas from your fellow crafters. No registration required.

Yarnies at the Jenks
1st and 3rd Saturday of the month at 10:00 AM

The Library's Yarnies group is now meeting on the first and third Saturday of the month at the Jenks!  All are welcome: beginners, experts, and everyone in between! Drop in, no registration required.

Mandala Mindfulness:
A Group For Creative Coloring and Connection
Wednesdays at 11:00 AM starting September 27

Many people find the drawing or coloring of a mandala to be meditative. The very nature of drawing or coloring a mandala is therapeutic and symbolic. Join us for a relaxing session of coloring and connection. We will meet on Wednesdays at 11:00 am.  All are welcome. This event is presented in partnership with the Northeast Recovery Learning Community. No Registration Required.

Books & Building
Wednesdays at 3:30 PM

Join us for an afternoon of stories and building. We will read a story or two, and then have materials for an open ended building challenge. For ages 3-6. No registration required.

Board Game Afternoon for Teens
Fridays at 3:30 PM

Drop in to the Large Meeting Room on Friday afternoons to play board games and hang out with your friends! We'll provide a variety of games and snacks for this unstructured game time. No registration required.

Preschool STEAM
Saturday, September 30 10:30 AM

STEAM's not just for school-aged kids. Preschoolers can try hands-on activities that will spark an early interest in STEAM topics. For ages 3-5. Register online.

In Transition Conversation Series
Monday, October 2 12:00 PM

Join Linda Rossetti, Winchester resident and author of the book, 'Dancing with Disruption,' for an informal supportive conversation about how to successfully navigate times of upheaval in our careers and in our lives. The group relies on methods from Linda's research and incorporates learnings from the science of human development. Drop in to learn new approaches in a welcoming community. No registration required. Young Writers Club
Tuesday, October 3 5:00 PM

Whether you write stories, graphic novels, poetry, or anything, the young writers club is a place where you can talk about writing, share what you’re working on, and learn tips and tricks to help you on your writing journey. This program will meet once a month, no registration required. Grades 3-5.

National Banned Books Week Read In!
Thursday, October 5 3:00 PM

Friends and Patrons of all ages! Join us and other libraries around the state and the country as we acknowledge Banned Books Week with a Read In! Stop by one of our Banned Book tables and learn all about why certain books have been banned in the past (and why they're still being banned). Stay a while and grab a snack, sit with a book, or take our Banned Books Quiz!

Kids and Families will be out on the Library Lawn (weather permitting) and Teens and Adults will be in the Large Meeting Room. No registration required.

Craft Night: Mini Books
Thursday, October 12 7:00 PM

Make a mini version of your favorite book, then turn it into a keychain, a necklace, or earrings! This project is for teens and adults. It will be too difficult for little ones. Please pre-register here and specify which book you'd like to make.

Make a Mess Storytime
Saturday, October 14 10:30 AM

Let’s get messy at our outdoor Storytime! We'll sing songs and read stories, then we'll have some sensory play (like noodle bins) and messy art (like finger painting). Remember to dress appropriately for the weather and in clothes that can get dirty. For ages 18 months - 4 years. We will continue in all weather except heavy rain/thunderstorm/snowstorm. No registration required.

Scratch in the Sandbox
Monday, October 16 4:30 PM

Want to do more with coding? Kids in grades 3-5 join us to experiment coding with Scratch, and learn how to interface it with Lego Mindstorms EV3 and WeDo. Children younger than 9 years old must have an adult present on library property during the event. Register online.

Bracelet Buddies
Tuesday, October 17 5:00 PM

Join us on the 3rd Tuesday of each month for Bracelet Buddies. Everyone in grades 3-6 is welcome to join, no matter if you're a pro or a newbie! Come to make bracelets and friends! Children younger than 9 years old must have an adult present on library property during the event. Register online.

Virtual: Navigating College Admissions Successfully in 2023
Tuesday, October 17 7:00 PM

This Zoom presentation from Stand Out for College will help families understand how the lingering effects from the pandemic have changed the college admissions landscape and how it affects Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen. This program covers current college admissions trends, the importance of researching and visiting colleges to find schools that can be a good fit for your child, a timeline and other action steps that can be taken to make this Fall productive and help reduce the stress around the college admissions process. We will also discuss the importance of community service and how it can help a student to stand out from other applicants. Please register HERE to receive the Zoom link.

Fuzzy Octopus

Let's get crafty and make our own fleecy octopus stuffie! Children will learn how to braid, and will need to be able to tie knots and bows to create their octopus. For kids in grades 3-5. Teen Craft Time: Acrylic Painting
Thursday, October 19 4:00 PM

Stretch your creative muscles with our freeform paint program! We'll provide canvas, acrylic paint, and brushes, and set you free to create whatever masterpiece you want. Listen to some music, have some snacks, and see where your creativity takes you. Register online.

Kids Graphic Novel Book Club
Tuesday, October 10 5:00 PM

If you enjoy reading graphic novels, and you are in grades 3-5, this is the perfect book club for you! We will meet and discuss a different graphic novel once a month. Children younger than 9 years old must have an adult present on library property during the event. This month we'll be reading Phoebe and Her Unicorn: A Heavenly Nostrils Chronicle by Dana Simpson.  Register online.

Step into Storytime
Tuesdays at 10:30 AM

Children of all ages are invited to attend Step into Storytime! We'll read, sing, laugh and craft at this program. No registration required, however, high attendance is expected. Program begins promptly at 10:30am.

Itsy Bitsy Readers
Wednesdays at 12:00 PM & 1:00 PM

Parents and caregivers of infants, join us in the Storytime Room for songs, rhymes, fingerplays, and stories perfectly geared toward our littlest readers and their grown-ups. You’ll learn ways to develop your child’s early literacy skills, and we'll leave a little time at the end of each session for participants to chat with each other.

Pattycake Place
