History
The Alliance of Ocean County Historical Societies and Museums was founded and organized by the Ocean County Cultural & Heritage Commission in 2001. It is a offshoot of the New Jersey Historical Commission’s local history grant program administered by the Ocean County Cultural & Heritage Commission, which reallocates its funding award to local historical organizations that have applied directly to the county agency for support.
The primary purpose of the Alliance is to facilitate networking among the County’s more than 25 known historical organizations. Meetings are held quarterly at a variety of museum locations throughout Ocean County. Besides the opportunity to discuss mutual issues and concerns, the historical organizations have initiated a cooperative purchasing program that provides a system for buying archival materials and supplies in bulk at discounted prices.
This website is designed to offer a presence on the internet for local historical museums based in Ocean County so that they can better serve the historical community, as well as the general public.
