The Gallery was formed to fill a need for a dedicated venue for local artists beyond our twice annual Arts festivals. While the other galleries and gift shops in Magdalena have always been tremendously supportive of local artists and crafts persons, many of us believed Magdalena was ready for a more formal gallery focused exclusively on the works of local artists and those with local connections.
Magdalena Arts, Inc. was formed as a membership organization. All the Members support the Gallery by sharing the cost of expenses (rent, utilities, office supplies, etc.), serving on the Board or committees, and staffing the gallery six days a week plus special events. We currently have at least 23 members showing a broad variety of work - oils, watercolors, woodworking, jewelry, weaving, tie-dye, print-making, leather-working and more. Check the menu above under "Artists" to see a sample of each Artist.
The Gallery has hosted many events in its first year including street fairs, an art show for local students, an art contest for The Day of The Dead, assorted workshops and community get-togethers. Most events are open to anyone interested and the cost is minimal or free.
Our goal is to increase awareness of the wonderful and varied art and fine craft created in and around Magdalena, Datil and Pie Town, New Mexico. We also aspire to be a center for community events, art related and otherwise.
