Las Vegas construction boom

Has the cost of construction on the Las Vegas strip been too high? Construction cranes have dotted Las Vegas Boulevard for the last several years and new projects keep popping up. Workers are under pressure to build them faster and cheaper but at what cost? There have been several deaths along the strip, most recently at the MGM CityCenter project. Despite numerous OSHA violations at different projects, construction keeps moving right along. Since when did the Las Vegas real estate market dictate terms to our regulatory bodies? Even the city of Las Vegas has been pushing hard for urban renewal, especially in the downtown area. New growth is important to the valley, especially given the current state of the economy but it needs to be tempered with responsibility.

OSHA along with a few other government agencies is investigating the latest accident at CityCenter. Considering the project is costing in the billions of dollars, I'm sure construction will not cease despite their findings. However, I would expect them to take proper measures to protect their workers better. I'm sure anyone that has bought a condominium or plans to stay there would approve of that decision.
