History :

About 1806 AD, the First Baptist Church of Bolton was established (Gates 18-19, 34). They were the second religious organization to be established in the small town of conservative Congregationalists (Gates 14, 16, 33-37). They were one of the first Baptist churches in New York State (American Baptist Churches in the USA, Gates 34). The Baptists of Bolton were a small, conservative Baptist church who believed Jesus Christ is the Son of God, in the Holy Bible, believer’s baptism by immersion, Abolitionism, Prohibition, and Federalism (Encarta, Gates 34). About 1837, the church building was built (Gates 34). The church became affiliated with the Triennial Baptist Convention (established 1814), which became the Northern Baptist Convention in 1907, the American Baptist Convention in 1950, and the American Baptist Churches in the USA in 1972 (Wikipedia). In 1932, the kitchen and the Sunday school/social room were added. In 1950, the baptistery was added (Gates 34). From the mid-twentith century to 1977, Rev. Arthur Curren of Bolton Landing was the pastor (1930 US Census, Social Security Death Index). In 2002, Rev. Edd Blanchard became the pastor. The church hosted the 2002 Bolton Central School Baccalaureate Service.
