Western New York Alpaca Show and Fiber Festival

The alpaca breeders of WNY are holding the fourth annual summer show and fiber festival at the Empire City Farms in Cuba, New York on the weekend of July 11-12, 2009.  The alpaca breeders of WNY are a non profit, charitable corporation  of about 50 WNY alpaca farms founded for the purpose of enhancing the alpaca and its luxury natural fiber.   Other annual events include regular educational activities, open barns across the region, seminars and various local promotional activities.  Plans are underway for a possible fashion show and pen sale this fall.

 

            The summer animal show consists of three parts as follows:  1. a nationally certified “halter” show where over 200 of the best alpacas in the northeast region compete for ribbons based on conformation 2. a “performance” show where alpacas and their handlers compete for prizes based upon handling and agility.  This show involves a substantial youth component for children ages 5 and up and 3. a “fleece show” where over 100 of the best fleeces from this year’s clip have been skirted for competition and judged on a 100 point scale by a certified fleece expert.

 

            Accompanying these competitions are youth activities throughout the weekend, an alpaca products’ store featuring hand made and locally manufactured products and a fiber festival with numerous local artisans demonstrating and teaching fiber arts.  Their hand made wares will also be available for purchase.

 

It is expected that up to 1,000 people will visit the show over the weekend.For the comfort of the many visitors, air conditioned rest rooms and various food vendors will be on site throughout the weekend. Come and enjoy the beautiful setting of the Empire City Farm and be a part of an event filled weekend. There is no charge to enter and there will be lots of alpacas and alpaca products.
