n October 2009, BonaResponds stayed home. Well not really. Since there were no national disasters that were demanding our assistance, BonaResponds stayed close to home. We worked in Western New York. First in Gowanda NY where we worked cleaning up after their August flood and then in Olean NY and the surrounding area where we build a wheel chair ramp, helped clean out a basement, and held a Livestrong Day.

The flood affected much of the town. BonaResponds has made many trips to the area to help. Courtney and her mom have been there since the beginning. This is her story.

Gowanda, New York flood on August 10, 2009. This video was shot the morning after. Some of the first pictures taken. St. Mary's Episcopal Church was hit hard. There is hope! This Sunday, August 23, 2009, we will be holding our first Sunday services since the flood. We are calling the service, "Slipper Sunday." All are invited to shed your shoes at the door and wear slippers or socks for the service.

I thought that it was just that little tributary flooded. It stank of sewage and sulfur and diesel fuel and chemicals from super fund site up creek and water burned any cuts you had on feet and legs! Turns out it was flooded from this tributary across the Village all the way to Cattaraugus Creek a mile away and though I had 2 feet of water in my ...

Cattaraugus Creek a mile away and though I had 2 feet of water in my basement I didn't get any mud, only water. The Hospital directly across Main street about a 100 yards on the side street didn't do so luck though!( I guess they didn't have their power generators on the roof either.
