‘Gateway to America’ Tour from NY Waterway Tours,National Park Service and National Parks of New York Harbor Conservancy Offers Narrated Cruise of Harbor’s History The new Gateway to America Tour, offered by NY Waterway Tours in partnership with the National Park Service and the National Parks of New York Harbor Conservancy, offers an interesting and exciting look at the history of New York Harbor. This 60-minute sightseeing cruise, created to mark this year’s 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s world-changing visit to New York, presents a glimpse of the New York that first attracted settlers to the New World and illustrates why America begins in New York and on its harbor.
The lively narration by Kathleen Turner and David Rockefeller Jr. explains points from the time of Henry Hudson to successive waves of immigrants and shipmasters, offering a rich and layered perspective on harbor ecology, commerce, immigration, and defense. Starting May 1, Gateway to America Tours depart daily from the Battery Maritime Building next to the Staten Island ferry.
