Introduced by Academy Award nominated producer Caroline Baron.
The first and last film Jean-Luc Godard shot in CinemaScope, Le Mepris features Brigitte Bardot in one of her few serious roles.
Bardot plays the wife of a screenwriter (Michel Piccoli) who gets involved with the producer of a film (Jack Palance) that her husband is writing. Legendary director Fritz Lang, who was nearly blind by the time of the filming, plays himself.
The film, Godard’s provocative essay on the vexed relationships between artistic and commercial cinema—and men and women—is gorgeously photographed by Raoul Coutard with a score by the masterful Georges Delerue.
