The Miriam A. Osborn Foundress Luncheon To Benefit The Osborn’s Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Initiative

The Osborn Retirement Community will host a luncheon with special guest speaker, Laura Claridge, author of Emily Post, Daughter of the Gilded Age, Mistress of American Manners. Emily Post, most noted for her books on etiquette, was the daughter of Bruce Price, architect of The Osborn as well as other notable sites such as Tuxedo Park, NY, Welch Hall at Yale University, and Le Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. All proceeds from the Luncheon will support The Osborn’s Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Initiative.

The goal of The Osborn’s Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Initiative is to be the leader in providing the highest quality of care to individuals and families on The Osborn campus and living in the surrounding communities impacted by these diseases through family support programs, ongoing state-of-the-art training, and innovative quality of life enhancements.  The Osborn maintains an ongoing relationship with the Copper Ridge Institute, a Johns Hopkins University affiliated program that specializes in Dementia Care.

Ms. Claridge’s biography of Emily Post describes “the unforgettable woman who changed the mindset of millions of Americans” with her publication of “Etiquette” which has helped America navigate the constantly changing social landscape of the times, according to the publisher. Ms. Claridge’s biography of Emily Post received a National Endowment for the Humanities grant and the J. Anthony Lukas Prize for a Work in Progress, administered by the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Books will be available for purchase at the Luncheon.

The Luncheon will include a book signing by Ms. Claridge as well as a Silent Auction, Raffle. and Giving Tree, where guests will have an opportunity to purchase specific equipment or supplies to enhance the lives of individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.

The Luncheon, which will be prepared by The Osborn’s Executive Chef, Richard Lipari, a graduate of the famed Culinary Institute of America, is open to the public, but seating is limited.
