We are a small group of people who have experienced domestic violence. Every Tuesday we meet, talk, offer advice/companionship, and basically create a buddy system. I am the founder, my story and efforts were featured on the cover of the Sunday Staten Island Advance (check out my blog). I call the meetings "Coffee Talk," we meet from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. I supply coffee/tea and snacks. A bunch of us gather in this very CASUAL setting, discuss our issues, and motivate each other to be proactive. There is security and counselors on-call at all times. A variety of resources are provided. If you or anybody you know may be interested or in need of such support please advise them to contact me. This group has made a world of difference for us already. I have learned one thing for sure... NO ONE CAN REALLY UNDERSTAND YOU UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN THROUGH IT AS WELL. Come join us, you don't have to go through it alone. People who may be (or know people) interested in attending meetings or anyone who will help me spread the word to those who need it.
