"Show me your cemeteries and I will tell you what kind of people you have." - Benjamin Franklin.
Well Mr. Franklin, join us for a “Walking Tour of Moravian Cemetery” and we’ll gladly tell you what kind of people we have. We have people from the early 1700’s to the present. They include: farmers, oystermen, ship builders, inventors, educators, doctors, businessmen, historians, lawyers, architects, nurses, artists, sheriffs, and yes, an Indian Chief. We have people who fought in the Revolutionary War, Civil War, Spanish-American War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the present day Mid-East Wars.

I've been walking through cemeteries since I was a small child when my parents vacationed in my uncle’s log cabin in southern Vermont. Cemeteries have always been very peaceful places to me. As I grew older and developed an interest in history and genealogy, they became invaluable tools of research - Richard Simpson, Historian and Tour Guide for Moravian Cemetery.

Genealogy Inquiries. Do you have ancestors resting at Moravian Cemetery? Our records go back to 1867. We might have information about your family. To see what information might be found, click on article entitled: "Researching Your Family? Here's a Good Place to Start."
We can provide records (our Interment Records date to 1867) and photographs of gravestones for those resting at Moravian Cemetery. We can also provide obituaries (providing one was placed in the local newspaper) and copies of Wills (providing one was filed in Staten Island).
Requests for information can only be accepted by sending an e-mail. Sorry, we can not accept walk-ins. Please send us an e-mail, type the name of the party you are inquiring about in the subject line. Give us as much information as possible. You will usually receive a reply within 24 hours.
Since I volunteer my time to help families with genealogy, I am at the cemetery office one afternoon each week, your genealogy request can take up to 3-4 weeks to complete.
