In publication for more than 140 years, The Westfield Republican was founded in 1855, the first republican newspaper in the United States. Intended as a voice for the recently formed party, The Republican was built on its principles, at a time when, according to Thomas Jefferson, "the natural ally of slavery in the South was then Democracy in the North." In response to this thinking, the new Republican party was formed, and The Westfield Republican along with it.

Now published weekly each Thursday, The Westfield Republican is a community newspaper, with a hometown voice which speaks directly to the community it serves.

Located in Westfield, New York, a village rich in history and a favorite stop on the Seaway Trail, the paper reaches local subscribers in Chautauqua County and those who look to it from afar for a piece of home.

Located in the southwestern corner of New York State on the Shore of Lake Erie, Westfield is in the Chautauqua Region, an area rich in tourist attractions all year round. Route 17 and I-90 provide arterials for easy access by car, or you can fly into Chautauqua County Airport, located just north of Jamestown, NY on USAir Express commuter flights from Pittsburgh several times each day.
