The Early Settlers Association will celebrate the 213th birthday of the City of Cleveland, and you are invited. It was on July 22nd 1796 that Moses Cleaveland and his party of surveyors founded what called the Capital City of the Western Reserve.

The day will begin with the traditional wreath laying on the southwest quadrant of Public Square in front of the Moses Clevealand statue at 11:00 a.m. That program will include a few words about the founding of the City.  We will then move the program to Massimo da Milano Restaurant at Detroit and 25th Street, at 12 noon. The restaurant is located in the historic former Forest City Bank Building at the corner of West 25th and Detroit Avenue, just across the Detroit-Superior high level bridge. Our president, John D. Cimperman, will give a short talk on the history of the building and the bridge. Before or after the program you may want to visit the subway entrance on the lower level of the building.

Our speaker will be this year’s Herrick Memorial Award recipient, Les Roberts. Mr. Roberts has had a distinguished career as an actor, screenwriter, and author. His Hollywood career included writing for such classics as Candid Camera and the Jackie Gleason Show, The Hollywood Squares, and other great shows such as The I Love Lucy Show, The Andy Griffith Show, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E., just to name a few. He came to Cleveland to create the Cash Explosion Show for the Ohio Lottery and fell in love with the city.

He is the author of over 23 novels. He is most loved for his creation of his Slovenian detective, Milan Jacovich.
