Mission Statement:
The mission of the Cleveland Institute of Music is to provide exceptionally talented students from around the world an outstanding, thoroughly professional education in the art of music performance and related musical disciplines. The Institute embraces the legacy of the past and promotes the continuing evolution of music within a supportive and nurturing environment. The Institute also provides rigorous training in programs for gifted pre-college musicians and serves as a resource for the community with training for individuals of all ages and abilities.
A guiding principle at the Institute maintains that a liberal arts education contributes to a broad, humanistic perspective and is a vital component of the undergraduate curriculum. Equally important is the faculty's commitment to incorporating new technologies to complement and enhance the educational program.
The distinguished faculty of the Institute aims to develop the full artistic potential of all of its students. Through performance and teaching, the faculty and administration are dedicated to passing along their knowledge and love for this great art and to providing the bridge to an exciting and fulfilling career.

The Cleveland Institute of Music is a leading international conservatory that is distinguished by an exceptional degree of collaboration between students and teachers. This same stimulating environment extends to the Institute's community education programs, which help people of all ages realize their musical potential.
For more than 80 years, CIM has offered a world class education to students from 3 to 93 and provided concerts for the community. Located in University Circle, Cleveland's cultural hub, CIM is easily accessible to all music lovers.
CIM's conservatory student body is international in its composition: 25% from other countries, 50% from other U.S. states, and 25% from Ohio. More than 3000 talented students have graduated in the Bachelors, Masters, Artist Diploma, Artist Certificate, Professional Studies and Doctoral programs. 80% of The Institute's alumni perform in major national and international orchestras and opera companies and hold prominent teaching positions around the world.
The Institute participates in a Joint Music Program with Case Western Reserve University which allows college students to take advantage of an outstanding liberal arts education. A close relationship with The Cleveland Orchestra is maintained with thirty-seven members of The Orchestra serving on the CIM faculty.
In addition to the conservatory program, over 1600 young people, ages three to eighteen, and 150 adults receive music instruction each year. The Preparatory and Continuing Education Division offers classes in Dalcroze eurhythmics, Suzuki studies, music theory, all instruments and voice, for children and adults. Classes are available at four branch locations. Outreach programs are presented by college and preparatory students at local schools, hospitals, retirement facilities, and for major community events. Distance Learning initiatives extend CIM's reach far beyond the northeast Ohio region. Current students and alumni enrich the region's musical organizations with the high quality of their performing.
