The Bend Public Library was designed by Thomas Hacker and Associates of Portland, Oregon. The 40,000 square foot Bend Public Library opened in October 1998 and is conveniently located adjacent to downtown Bend. The beautiful exposed beams and high ceiling on the second floor, complemented with generous windows looking east, gives an airy and open feeling to the library. Circulation, Children’s Services, and Technical Services are located on the ground floor. The adult stacks, reading areas, study areas, computer lab, public computer stations, and Reference Department are upstairs. The Branch also serves as the "main library" for the system, providing more in-depth services than is possible at the smaller branch libraries. The Circulation Manager, Reference Manager, and Youth Services Coordinator jointly manage the Bend Branch.
