Gresham, OR - Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC), Oregon Sea Grant and Oregon State University (OSU) Extension Service will be hosting the OSU/MHCC Water School, a two-day mini college on sustainable living, watershed stewardship and other water-related topics. This event will be held at the MHCC Gresham Campus. This event is one of several collaborative pilot projects between Columbia Riverkeeper, MHCC and OSU to explore expanding watershed education opportunities in the Gresham and Troutdale communities.
The OSU/MHCC Water School is an exciting opportunity for natural resource professionals, gardeners, educators, watershed council staff and volunteers and land developers to learn more about Oregon’s intricate watershed ecosystem. Classroom and field sessions will be taught by faculty from MHCC and OSU Extension Service and by staff from the Columbia Riverkeeper and other local partners. The water school will include learning tracks with up to four 90-minute sessions on Friday, April 16, followed by field application sessions on Saturday, April 17. MHCC student clubs will host a watershed expo that will be open to the public with information from regional watershed organizations on Friday, April 16, from noon to 1 p.m.
Classroom and field trip topics include watershed processes, The Clean Water Act: what you need to know, rain gardens, wetland ecology and restoration, groundwater hydrology, geology of the Columbia River Basin and fish biology and habitat.
The OSU/MHCC Water School registration fee is $50 and is due by Friday, April 9.
