On 06/29/09 at approximately 1434 hours, Medford Police officers responded to the report of a robbery in progress at Key Bank, 2 E. Main Street. While responding to that location, officers learned that the suspect was still inside the bank and had allegedly told the teller that she should activate the alarm and he would “just wait for the police in the lobby.”
Officers arrived on scene a short time later and took the suspect, Kenneth Metzker, into custody without incident. They later learned that the suspect had presented a note to the teller indicating his intent to rob the bank but also wanted the teller to activate the alarm for police to respond.
After investigating the incident, investigators lodged the suspect at the Jackson County Jail on a charge of Disorderly Conduct rather than robbery as the circumstances surrounding the case fit this crime more closely than the robbery statutes. No money was taken in this crime.
Mr. Metzker is the same individual that robbed the same branch of Key Bank on 061302 in which he also presented a demand robbery note. In that case, he was arrested by MPD officers as he exited the bank onto Main Street. He was later charged by Federal Authorities with Unarmed Bank Robbery and pled guilty to charges.
Suspect: Metzker, Kenneth William DOB/101647 200 Blk. N. Holly Street, Medford, Oregon (Refer to Det. B. Garich, 09-10068)
